Dowthwaite, Soontorn Kietthanakorn --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET UP INSTRUCTIONS Ver 1.1d2 (475 Raw Materials) For Installation and Upgrade (Some of the most likely problems are discussed below) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Support or problems : www.PerfumersWorld.com Email Perfumer@mail.com Fax Int + (66 2) 952 5385 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minimum system requirements 386 - 25MHz 4MgBits RAM Recommended 486/Pentium - 100 MHz or faster Requires Windows 3.x or 95 - Hard Disk Space 8 Mgbits plus space for formula's that you write. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ver. 1.1 is limited to 10,000 raw materials. However, Windows 3.1 setups will not normally support a database of much more than 1,000 or so raw materials. The Program writes to 2 directories and their sub-directories : C:\Workbook\Pic & \Formulas C:\Formula\Archive\Recovery (If you currently use these directory names move the files in them to alternative directories before loading 'The Perfumer's Workbook' - If this cannot be done Do not load the program and contact the vendor). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET-UP Quick Instructions (for computer nerds) Close all other programs Run 'pw-setup.exe' Click OK at prompt at beginning of Set-Up & at the End The Perfumer's Workbook runs automatically. A WinZip window appears - if prompted confirm overwrite If an installed version is detected then you will be prompted to Upgrade - this is the best option if you have added raw material data or formulas. When the program starts Press F1 on the keyboard. Type 'Quick Start Tour' -and follow the tour. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SET-UP Step by Step instructions Check you that don't currently have the directories c:\workbook or c:\formula (if you do see above) Insert Disk into Drive 'a' (or Run from your downloaded file) Go to File Manager or Explorer and select drive a:\ (or where you saved it eg.browser\comm\programs) You should see a file list similar to this :- pw-setup.exe readme.txt (this file on disk versions) Double-Click pw-setup.exe or :- (Click and select Run in the File menu) or :- (This can also be done from Program Manager - Select Files - Run - Browse - a:\ - pw-setup.exe - OK-OK) You are prompted at the start of set-up (if you get an Unzip window then click the UnZip button). A WinZip window appears - if you are prompted confirm overwrite files You will then be prompted at the end of the installation. If an installed version is detected then you will be prompted to Upgrade - this is the best option if you have added raw material data or formulas in your previous copy. (if by accident you choose incorrectly see below) The Perfumer's Workbook should now run automatically. Press the F1 key and type 'Quick' the help screen will scroll down to 'A Quick Start Tour'. Follow this step by step and it will explain most of the programs functions and tools in a very short time. Exit by clicking the 'WayOut' picture in the bottom right hand corner. The Icons in program manager/start up menu will not appear until you exit and re-start your computer next time. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEMS ? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If The Perfumer's Workbook doesn't run (after initial installation) If your program doesn't run after you've just installed it. Delete directories c:\temp\pw, c:\workbook and c:\formula. Close windows. Turn off your computer. If any programs are started automatically when Windows is opened then close them. Run Setup.exe again as above. Reboot again. (after already using The Perfumer's Workbook before) Close all other programs and start The Perfumer's Workbook again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You don't have any Icons These only appear after your computer is completely shut down and re-booted. If you still haven't got them then you can add an Icon in the Program Manager manually. (c:\workbook\workbook.exe). Windows 95 users may have to add shortcuts themselves - Call up Help from Program Manager for Instructions. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If some old programs on your computer have conflicts. The Perfumer's Workbook is a very safe installation as it does not write to your system files except for adding the icons. In the unlikely event of conflicts try these following strategies in turn - only 1 may be necessary: 1) Try closing all other programs and running The Perfumer's Workbook by itself. 2) The program links to Windows with the following seven files in c:/workbook cmdialog.vbx graph.vbx grid.vbx gsw.exe gswdll.dll threed.vbx vbrun300.dll If you have the same name files in your Windows/system directory then check the dates on the files (in File Manager/Explorer) keep the most recent, the new files in Windows System and move the older versions to the c:\formula\archive\recovery directory. Close and restart your computer. 3) If you have installed other progams since installing and using The Perfumer's Workbook then try reinstalling the program again. Run pwset-up.exe again but to prevent setting your data to the original number of materials - Check 'Upgrade' when prompted. This will re-install the 7 files listed above , 'workbook.exe' (the core program) and the icons. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You Re-installed instead of Upgrading by mistake and lost your old formulas or raw material data. It happens but you can recover your original data. The 10 old files are stored with the extension *.dak. in c:\formula\archive\recovery\ *.dak (not *.dat) Copy both sets onto another directory or disk first so that you can swap them about if necessary later. Change the extensions to *.dat and move all the files as a set to c:\workbook. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Small Screen If when your program runs it is in a small screen this is probably because your monitor resolution is set too high. If you reset to 640 x 480 - 256 colours you can view the program in full screen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strange Colours If colours appear dark or not realistic then try selecting high colour in the settings section of the Display configuration - found in you Control Panel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Changing the Main ID Name in the Set-Up Area When changing the name of a material - all formulas previously saved will show the new name. For this reason we suggest that you do not change a materials record to a completely unrelated one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clearing formulas from the screen This is done the NB. window (Click Files and then NB. - same area as Print). 1 column can be cut (Scissors) or use the Trashcan to clear the whole screen. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deleting Formulas or Raw Materials We don't allow you to do this as it is very dangerous. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Removing The Perfumers Workbook - Safely The Perfumer's Workbook is a very safe installation as it does not write to your system files except for adding the icons and is therefore very easy to remove from your system. However, no automatic 'uninstall' has been included to help reduce the chances of accidental loss of data. 1) Make sure you have kept a printed record of your formulas. 2) In File Manager/Explorer delete directories C:\formula & C:\workbook and their subdirectories. 4) In Program Manager click on the Icons - Press the delete key and confirm. Then repeat with the group itself. 5) There is now no trace of The Perfumer's Workbook on your computer 6) If you have accidentally deleted data. There is a very good chance of recovering the files. Stop using the computer - particularly don't add any new files or programs. There is an Undelete function in File Manager. Press F1 for help or consult a computer professional before using the computer again. Alternatively, send us an email giving us as much detail as possible. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Perfumer's Workbook, c/o TCFF Co.
